The novel Aadum Narkaaligal Aadugindrana by Jayakanthan offers a profound exploration of the emotional complexities that shape human relationships and behaviour. This research article examines the fundamental emotions portrayed through the character of Alangaravalliyammal, whose deep maternal affection gradually transforms into possessiveness, fear and anger. These emotional shifts influence her relationships with her children and determine the course of their lives. By tracing the interplay of love, control, insecurity and emotional conflict, the novel presents a realistic portrayal of human psychology and the consequences of unchecked emotions within the family.
