Abstract
The idea that literature should record the sufferings endured by people as a result of the war-torn conditions that arose in Western countries was proposed by many scholars. In this context, theoretical approaches such as Ecocriticism, Existentialism, and Sociology emerged. Although Realism did not initially function as a fully developed theoretical framework, it remained primarily concerned with portraying the realities of ordinary people's lives. Today, realist thought has gradually begun to flourish in poetry. From Sangam literature to contemporary literary works, the influence and scope of Realism have steadily expanded. This study examines the representation of social realism in Sahitya Akademi Award-winning poems, with particular attention to issues such as caste discrimination, untouchability, the neglect of human dignity, and various forms of social injustice and crime.
